Discipleship Ministry

Purpose

“Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me…’ ” (Mk 1:17, ESV)
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Mt. 28:19, ESV)

Being a disciple is not an optional add-on to being a Christian. Christians are just disciples of Jesus, people who come to Jesus as their Savior and follow him as their King. Discipleship is the process of becoming in Christ all that we already are in Christ. Below are some opportunities for you to gather with others for encouragement and support in being formed more into the image of Christ.

Habits of the Household: Practicing the Story of God in Everyday Family Rhythms

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6, ESV).

All of us with responsibilities for the care of children (whether we are parents, grandparents, godparents, aunts, uncles, or friends) want this to be true for our children. We say “yes” to this verse, but are nagged by the question, “how?”. Each of us sees routines and habits in our life that are not forming us or the children we care for into the image of Christ, but we all get stuck wishing for something better and worrying that it is not. Developing new routines is hard and requires encouragement and support. So once a month we are going to gather for a time of reflection, support, and encouragement toward the goal of our households being “schools of love” of God and neighbor. We will be using Justin Earley’s book “Habits of the Household” to guide our discussion and as an encouragement to develop specific, new routines for our lives that are shaped by the gospel.
